My name is Jay Malaspino and I am the principal designer of Cape Cod Home Design. I have been designing residential construction projects in southeastern Massachusetts for over 13 years full time. Previous to this date I was involved in construction as a licensed construction supervisor and licensed home improvement contractor as well as an architectural designer for over 16 years.

I have extensive construction field experience. Because of my construction experience as well as my expertise in structural design my construction documents (aka - plans or blueprints)are sought after by builders and framers for the accuracy and completeness.

My structural design knowledge was self-taught in the beginning. I was immediately fascinated with engineered wood products when I was first introduced to them in the design process in 1998. I attended a week long Load Calculation and Product Selection course offered by LP. I then attended another week long structural design course on floor and roof truss design achieving the Level 1 Truss Technician Certificate from the WTCA (Wood Truss Council of America).

My intrigue of complementing my architectural design work with structural design then led me to a full time position as an Engineered Wood Products Designer at Shepley Wood Products for 2 years. I would later go on to work in the engineering department at National Lumber under the direct supervision of (2) licensed engineers. Working with a licensed structural engineer each and every day for two years furthered my structural design knowledge to size any type of joist, beam, rafter, floor or roof system. This gives me an advantage over many other designers.
